Shepherd Community Center Playground
Resurfacing & Spray Park Addition
Chattanooga, TN
The City of Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department desired to revitalize the existing playground area at the Shepherd Community Center by removing and replacing the loose mulch playground surface with a poured-in-place, pervious, rubber playground surface. The new rubber playground surface is much safer for children, maintenance friendly for the City of Chattanooga, and also much more aesthetically pleasing to the community. The project also incorporated the design of a subsurface drainage system for the playground which alleviated flooding issues during all storm events.
Passpointe also designed a ‘spray pad’ area, which included several different interactive water features, at the rear of the playground. This ‘spray pad’ was also designed with the new rubber surface, and drainage was handled via the same subsurface drainage system as the playground.
